In Sabine Behrenbeck's book Der Kult um die toten Helden, on p. 503, she claims that, before the coffin is lowered, the dagger of the dead SS man is given to a relative or comrade, as sign of the obligation to continue the meaning of the death and struggle of the departed.
This appeared as a suggestion, but was it actually observed, to anyone's knowledge? Are there other reported rituals of what was to be done with the dagger of the dead man?
