    SS dagger ceremony at funeral?

In Sabine Behrenbeck's book Der Kult um die toten Helden, on p. 503, she claims that, before the coffin is lowered, the dagger of the dead SS man is given to a relative or comrade, as sign of the obligation to continue the meaning of the death and struggle of the departed.
This appeared as a suggestion, but was it actually observed, to anyone's knowledge? Are there other reported rituals of what was to be done with the dagger of the dead man?

I am sure some were buried with their owners if time and circumstances permitted such.
