    Pack Dress Bayonet

    Good day Gentlemen

I picked up this bayonet last night. from a vet's family. Interestingly it was found in a drawer and none of the family had ever seen it before. I doubt it has been taken out of it's scabbard for many years and is very tight. Also as you can see from one of the pics the handle was stuck to the frog and some of the polish has come away and is stuck to the handle.

Great makers mark. I'm not a bayonet man so have not seen this logo before on a parade bayonet. A nice surprise when I pulled it out of the scabbard.

Question - it is very tight in the scabbard. Is there a good way of easing it slightly? Oil, Renwax or similar perhaps.

    Many thanks

    James

and the reverse and mm. You can see where the polish has stuck to the cross guard

The paint of the scabbard is in very good condition with just some loss on the rear which looks like rubbing rather than chipping

      Nice Extra-Seitengewehr ! Congrats !

      Oil the blade with Ballistol.

        Try it with lithium grease.
After scabbard adjust, just easy to clean blade with a clean cotton cloth.

        Sincerely respect

Personally I'd use Renwax over grease or oil. If you think the leaf springs inside are too tight you could try to carefully remove them and spread them out a bit. A little wax on those could help too.

            Gentlemen

Thanks you all so much for your helpful suggestions about easing the springs. I think I'll give Renwax a try first.

Oh by the way I only collect Eickhorn (mad I know!) blades so this will make it's way to the sales table at some stage. I just love the double Seitengewehr (thanks Reibert-Austria for the correct name) showing Siegfried.

            Many thanks

              James:

              Another Eickhorn nut, like me.

Renwax has worked for me.. it will lubricate the blade and make it slide in and out of the scabbard better and it will also protect the blade from moisture and other nasty stuff.
