Ran across this Horster Army with what looks like aluminum fittings and a unusual set of hangers . The guard and pommel dont seem to conform to the examples in Wittmanns book to me but he doesnt show one with aluminum fittings . Can I have youre opinions please . Thanks .

Are you sure the pommel and crossguard are aluminum? They look real as heck but I have never seen that kind of patination on that type of alloy (maybe my inexperience
).
I like the hangers too, a late war variation IMO. I have a set or two just like it.

I've had a few Horsters like this in the past, the fittings were lightly silver plated over aluminum.
So the finish is wearing thru to the base metal.Comment

Earlier Horster with Pack hilt fittings. Scabbard also looks very correct Horster with single screw. All aluminum fitted daggers I have seen have very clean and "aluminum silver" coloring, no patina. I believe these are the silver plated zink or pot-metal based Pack fittings that mimic the aluminum look so well at times... all very correct and period though,hangers included being the less encountered Assmann variety. congrats..Kevin.Comment
