Originally posted by Frogprince View PostA very nice haul!! As for the Luftwaffe marked frog, it IMO really belongs on a general issue combat bayonet. With my guess being that it was a GI or collector who put the two together at some point in history at, or after the end of the war. Agreeing that no German Army Waffenamts is the general rule for Police bayonets, but noting that there is a very limited exception for one of the other Police combat bayonet makers (but not Coppel). The ACS is a police bayonet, that's what the eagle mark on the spine denotes. These aren't very common and the condition looks great. The matching scabbard should have no serial number. They're considered "commercial" pieces and therefore don't have the Waffenamt mark.
Fireman bayonets usually have black frogs. Brown is usually Luftwaffe, and your LBA mark is a Luftwaffe mark. Not to say they weren't worn together, but not typical.

Wow guys - great pieces of information, much appreciated!
Seems like there was a real little treasure hiding in this group Initially I thought it's a standard K98 ... but obviously not *yeah* What kind of value are we talking about - I have absolutely no clue.
Thanks again and enjoy the beauties like I do!

The organisations, I mentioned, purchased the SG84/98III for themselves and, as far as I know, they´re not especially marked.
But, I noticed several different spine-markings on commercial bayonets, used in the Police.

With a case in point being the Grenzschutz which was a fairly late organization (1944) using customs officials that had been taken away from Reich Finance Ministry control to be under the German Police. With the earlier Reinforced Frontier Control (Verstärkter Grenzaufsichtsdienst - VGAD) which was under the Finance Ministry, losing part of its autonomy to the GESTAPO (Police) before Germany began expanding its borders in 1938. With another bayonet I did not mention being the R.F.V. (Reichsfinanzverwaltung) marked SG 84/98 combat bayonets because they have Waffenamts/military style markings. And seem to have been from Wehrmacht production (not commercial bayonets). Best Regards, Fred
