Peter, That would be a “39” on the back spine of the blade, and the other marks are the WaA253 Waffenamts (some are partially erased). And as I suspected, it looks like a period armory rework. All in all a nice collectable combat bayonet with some history behind it. Regards. FP

Thanks Kevin, FP, John and 777. I must remember your admonishment of my spelling 777. I will try and find out some more about Waffenamt marks and whether they were confined to bayonets. In any event this seems an OK item, it all depends on the cost of purchase. Thanks for everyone's input. I constantly learn new things on this forum, I'm afraid that I am far from being an expert.
