Nr. 1058 Upgrade

Not much, but figured i'd share this one. Typically I don't since there are very few of us who are bonkers for Heer sabels.


Acquired this one a couple moths ago. Eventually got to removing it from the shipping box, waxed the blade, and eventually placed it in the sword display (almost out of room). My former Nr 1058 was sold to a collector pal from the forums. I ordinarily don't upgrade pieces since most of what I buy is in excellent shape..this was a cut above my former Nr. 1058.

Brass hilted, retaining 90% of it's original gold colored gilting. Scabbard paint rates about 85%

It's got one of the funky, seldom seen platicesque knots, which has a cracked cord (strap) which I'll need to repair (short of that the knot rates excellent+).

Nice sword Tom! And, you are absolutly right about the plastic strap knots... they are hard to find and a neat variation.

I really dig the bright gilt covered brass hilted sabers who's brass grip wire is darkly patina'd. The contrast between grip wire, and the gold colored hilt really makes for an aesthetically attractive piece.

This saber has a small grip repair. Whoever made the repair did an excellent job. They clearly used an epox resin..probably a 2 part resin like JB Weld. It's a small spot they repaired, but they did a great job and it doesn't detract from the saber since it's so small and almost impossible to indentify without a close, in hand inspection.

I've also attached an image of another WKC pattern as well as a Clemen and Jung example which also illustrate the very noticeable contrast between the grip wire and saber hilt.

I should mention just for clarification, the first dovehead saber I posted is the ("nummer"= number) Nr 1058 being discussed, while the 2nd dovehead saber pictured below is an entirely differnt pattern saber, though still produced by the WKC firm. These sabers are very very similiar in many respects, save for the P-guard assembly which includes the quillion block, the obverse and revers langets, as well as the design embellishment of the P-guard itself.

Should anyone have the WKC sales catalog where this particular pattern's Nr is listed, please pass it along as i'd greatly appreciate it.
