I dont believe this one ever had a guard, I was looking at Hughes book last night and theres a couple guard variations, this shows no filling damage or evidence of a guard.
the ricasso meets the wooden grip perfect, no sign of repair to the 3 pins
Maybe a new variation or at least another ???

Hi,
I think it may appear like this didn't have a crossguard because the grips are not original. The grooves are not like period examples, and the rivets are replacements. This knife and scabbard would have started out life looking like the ERN in this recent thread. http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=432098
