yes, just got home and grabbed the camera

It would have had 'small rearward-swept quillon' i think.....

Mike, if you look in the book "German Military Fighting knives" by Gordon Hughes, this one is on page 12.
Could have the flat oval guard as well.
            Good catch!

I dont believe this one ever had a guard, I was looking at Hughes book last night and theres a couple guard variations, this shows no filling damage or evidence of a guard.

the ricasso meets the wooden grip perfect, no sign of repair to the 3 pins

Maybe a new variation or at least another ???

                Hi,

I think it may appear like this didn't have a crossguard because the grips are not original. The grooves are not like period examples, and the rivets are replacements. This knife and scabbard would have started out life looking like the ERN in this recent thread. http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=432098

Seems to match the one illustrated on the cover of Gordon Hughes German Fighting Knives book, less the quillon.

... less paint on the scabbard, less the retaining strap on the belt loop, and less the original grips. But yes, the blade was a ringer for the one on the cover .... before it was to beat to heck.
