If we can see the composition of the scabbard, I wanted to save the "meat" of analysis for last................... that being the ivory. After all it is this part that turns a $700 Luft into a $3000 one.

you know its funny when so many people get into so many little detals about items because they "think" for some odd reason it isnt period... i see this on many forums with militaria .. i own a LOT OF REPS but i chose to buy them to study them and know the current scams people are up to but i also own a large collection including a few daggers including some parts daggers still fine pieces of work.. some rare some not so rare .. i have done my research on this stuff i know enough to get by and make a decision on to pass or take it .. this dagger in my case looked good to me and i like the dagger ... it was obviously a special order dagger or something that was changed to be unique durring the "period" we speak of but who cares ... the dagger does not toss out any clues to me that would deter me from buying it .. it is a rare maker of the blade regardless ... the handle "IS" ivory the cross guard and the rest also looks fine to other daggers i have seen over the years ... so .... i BOUGHT the dagger off tim .. and more than likely it will never be out of my hands again ... i will do the correct research to nail down exactly what my dagger is and anything else i can find out ... but it will be for myself as i do with every single item i have ever bought ...

The pommel does look like an early Eickhorn piece with the residue on the inside.

While it is apart, care to show the tang and grip ends ? You can cut down the size of the photos a bit, as they get a little distorted in extra large.

Most of the time with period ivory grips like that on a Luft or Navy, we see the area where the wire has contacted the ivory for 60 plus years. That area usually has a distinct color change in this groove produced by the wire, grime, dirt etc. Maybe we can get someone to post another ivory grip here for comparison.

A couple of Navies that show where the wire has contacted the ivory over time.

Witty's book displays many period Lufts with the wire/ivory contact area, that I speak of. Perhaps this Shuttlehoffer has it, but it's not visible in the photos.

OK time to take the gloves off:

Whittys book displays many period pieces as well as a few "humped up"
                    pieces,,

If this was Whittys or Gottliebs dagger we wouldnt be having this conversation,

Since you brought Whitty into the equation,

Please point us to the page in Whittys book of the SS Degen with the gouged out police emblem and replaced with SS runic button,,
(Surely you remember that sword,,you had to give the guy his money back on that one),,,yet it is proudly published in Whittys book,,,

Lets do an "analysis" of that piece shall we?

Your dagger this Shuttlehoffer, that is listed in the estand is the one that has the challenges that I've taken the time to point out. Would you like to show the scabbard so that this can be identified ? Trying to divert the topic looks like you are trying to hide something.

                        You have pointed nothing out

,,,and no I dont want to show the scabbard
as it is now at the post office on its way to the new owner,,,,

Sorry to rain on your parade,,,but you did not succeed in ruining this transaction which was clearly your intent,,,as you waited until it was sold to conduct your "analysis".

I thought you were really going to make some valid points here,,,
but I should have known,,,alot of noise about nothing,,,

                        now,,,, what about that Degen???

Why would anyone intelligent listen to your analysis
when you got caught selling something that it was not?

Try as I may to understand how, what I would imagine was a special order personalized dagger, came with a Shuttlehoffer blade, SMF crossguard, Eickhorn pommel, & a Generic scabbard.................. it just doesn't for me. Not trying to ruffle you, but more trying to understand the composition and legitimacy of this dagger.

There is one thing that does make sense with this dagger...................................... the reason that you decided to sell it.

Interesting read this topic certainly has been.

J.R. from what I see every time Niblet complies with your requests, you come up with another demand. It appears to me that you are on a witch hunt. Niblet is not one of my favorite people, this has been seen many times. But it seems to me you are going above and bejond to get under his skin and needlessly upset him. This, in my opinion is not fair to him or the dagger.

If I read this correctly, the dagger has been sold, but you still continue to press the issue. This can only been seen as harrassmnent.

If I am correct, and this dagger is now sold, I would like to recommend this topic be closed. If there is an issue with this item, the new owner can open a now topic.

yep that is a tough question,,,if it is as you say,,,,

but I disagree with you so it doesnt matter what you say,,,
Schuttlhoffer was a small manufacturer and could have used different firm's parts on thier daggers,,,I cant explain things I dont know about,,I wasnt
there when it was assembled,,no one else has brought any evidence to corraborate your yarn of a "parts dagger" theory,,

What I can explain is why some one would gouge out a police
emblem and replace it with an SS rune,,,,,its called greed and deceict

why would anyone put any stock in what you "think"??

Degens,,and most recenty TK rings......no sorry I'm not listening to you,,,
                                and neither is anyone else
