                    Wolf,

Sorry, I don't like the look of the eagle's wings or the middle & bottom fleur de lis borders . The finer details seem incomplete or poorly etched which IMO is something that wouldn't pass 3R Solingen quality control.

Are you sure. I mean slight differences are just normal.

                      Please, some more opinions!

Wolf, I posted the same response in the other forum, just an FYI.

                        Bill G's a bayo guy who's opinion I respect.

It's tough for me to say, but I don't know if I like the etching. Of course, the dress bayo is obviously good. This perhaps (if bad etch) is one of the British batch from the '70s. There are some areas of the etch which do infact seem sloppy and would cause me concern if the bayo was mine. As a rule, I generally am leery about many of the etches on the 98K parade bayos, as well as some of the tripple etches found on some of the plain hilted, nickel plated EM sabers, as these were also done in number by the same folks in the UK who did the bogus bayo etches. As it stands, i'm inclined to believe your etch is not good. Hopefully, i'm mistaken and flat out wrong.

                        Tom

Here's a comparison of 2 bayo etches, both on Eickhorn short parade bayos.

Wolfs bayo is pictured on the bottom, and a known good etch on top. There are some very minor differences which could be attributed to the specific etch, age, wear, photos and so on. I don't know and perhaps this photo will help a bit.

This is specifically why I hate etches and why I choose to leave them to others. We've become paranoid about certain etched pieces in the hobby and why I avoid them at all costs. I'm totally out on my opinion of this 98 and will leave it to others to decide......I hate I hate I hate I hate..etches!
