The top one has a maker mark of, "?W WADSWORTH & SON AUSTRIA, with a large X on each side that has the letters XLNT in each space of the X

The lower one has a maker mark of, ROSLERS NACHFOL?ER AUSTRIA on it.

The first maker "AW Wadsworth and Son, Austria" was a known manufacturer of knive´s, (also pocket-knive´s and so on), pre WWI.

I also found knive´s with "Wadsworth Czechoslowakia" ans "Wadsworth Germany", (pre, or post-war, I don´t know ...).

The second-one "Röslers Nachfolger Austria", I think, is still existing ...

But, I mentioned before, the leather scabbards show typical sign´s of Yugoslaw-one´s ...

Would the Yugoslav soldiers wear the same pips as German on their uniforms. The one on the strap has been there for a long time. Is it possible that German soldiers would use captured acoutrements.

RB.........Are the bulgarian fighting knives shown frame 1...ww2 or post war.(2 in the middle bottom near the gerbers) there used to be a bulgarian dude selling them on e bay almost every week for some time back.

Hi Ralph,

As far as the pip goes, there's little if any chance a German soldier would have put it on there. They just didn't do "non-regulation" things like that. If it's a wartime rig, that's a typical thing a souvenir hunting Allied soldier would do. IMHO these were probably not carried by German soldiers in WWII.

Also, the stag(?) handle knife in the bare metal scabbard, if original, apperas to have replaced grips. The rivets are not correct. The scabbard would not be correct for that type of knife either.

The scabbard for the early 3 rivet clip point dress bayonet isn't correct either. But you probably know all this already...

The rougher one of the two I believe is war time, has only a three digit serial #, the blued one has a five digit #, probably post war.

The knife is an original A. Wingen jr, handles were surely replaced post war by someone. As I do make knives, I will be replacing these handle slabs with something more appropriate and proper pins.

The Bulgarian fighting-knive´s are, (so I´ve been told), post WWII !

The scabbard´s of the Austrian-knive´s are probably "modified" one´s, made of original scabbard´s of the post WWII M24 bayonet, (developed for the Yugoslav M 1948 rifle).
