Opinions on this ebay 'panzer' headset?

    Hi there,

I put these up for sale just now on ebay but as I was writing the listing I noticed some interesting irregularities - just wanted you opinion. Here is my description:

    -----------------
Wehrmacht standard radio DFH.a and 39 marked headphones fitted with rubber ear protection and headband marked DFH.b as used by the German wehrmacht in their panzers and armored vehicles - the 39 denotes year of manufacture as 1939. No offensive markings to speak of and other than some surface paint that has worn off there is a very minor surface rusting only on the retaining area. Aside from these two minor points the headset is perfect with no leather cracks on the head band nor rubber - the "speaker" is also perfect.

Model: Doppelfernhörer Dfh.a marked on both ear phones
    Type: 2x1000 ohms
    Headband: marked DFH.b
    Year: 1939
    -----------------

Was this a common thing to put .a's on .b headsets and put rubber headphones on them? I didn't think it was even possible. Do you think this will affect the value of the headphones significantly?

    Listing is here:

That is a Frankenstein headset converted from a non-Panzer set. Yes, it should affect the value significantly, as dfha sets only cost a fraction of a Panzer version dfhb set.

For the purist collector, this headset has quite a few issues. Obviously the Dfh.a's do not belong in a Panzer headset, they lack the leather pull protection for the cables and are marked differently. The headband has also been doctored in the past, as the screws holding it together are non original (they should have rounded heads). The plug shown in the Ebay auction is also not correct, it is a postwar Czech example. The details of the rubber ear protectors are not clear in the photographs, but they are most likely reproductions on a cobbled togheter set like this. You need to remove the ear protectors and check the markings on the inside to be sure. There are some usefull threads on this forum discussing what Dfh.b's should look like.

As to value, it is obviously going to be significantly lower than an original example.

          regards,

          Funksammler

I wonder, what is a possible offensive marking on a headphone ?
