    W.Unland,

on Diplomatic/Government Official's and Luftwaffe visors, this type of application is actually "textbook" (period) and exactly what headgear collectors look for. It's the 1980ies fakes of these visors that often show a much nicer application...

"The gray service uniform is reserved exclusively for the environment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Members of the Foreign Office can use it during their stay at the headquarters."

marisca lrommel - your point is of course correct, member ebj was talking about Government Officials not members of the Diplomatic Corp. Those surrounding the headquarters in the Auswärtige Amt clearly wore this type of visor.

Thanks for the photos and document Marisca. This is an interesting subject, especially when you review the two primary English references on the subject and Uniform-Markt, the period publication for manufacturers and dealers. Unfortunately I don't have access to related directives released by the Ministries.

Angolia, p. 61, Uniform Regulations dated 21 April 1939, "...wear of the field-grey uniform was restricted to the officials in territories outside the German borders." While this statement was in the section on Uniforms of the Foreign Office and Diplomatic Corps, I agree that statement probably pertained to Generalgouvernement officials.

Halcomb, p. 104, "The field grey uniform was reserved to be worn in the presence of the Foreign Minister, at headquarters or at the offices of the Foreign Ministry."

FYI: Uniform-Markt 1.10.1941: Wir sahen neue Uniformen We saw new (brown) uniforms

In addition to the black diplomatic uniform and next to the blue and the field-gray official uniform will give a brown civil servant uniform. These are officials in the easternmost areas of the country.

The lighting for the photos of the subject cap must skew the color some, as it seems lighter than you would expect for feldgrau, such as with Ribbentrop's cap.

Absolutely ebj! The direct sunlight against the black cloth was not the smartest idea. Attached is a comparison shot with a field grey tunic. You can tell the visor leans a bit to the stone grey spectrum but is clearly a lot darker than it appears in the initial pics that started this thread.

Those Diplomatic visor caps sure had some majestic eagles. No wonder they were a primary collecting focus before the SS craze hit.

Agree with what's been previously said about the cap and uniform display. Stunning!
