It would be a pity that this thread obliviously ends up or derails from its tracks. Let's go back then to examine the sweatband. From the pictures no. 17-18-19 posted by French Volunteer I see a kind of half-moon stirndruckfrei. Leaving aside the fact that I personally do not like it, this feature would reduce the search for the alleged manufacturer to a few companies and it would therefore be possible to compare the other constructive features of this cap. I'm curious to know from other friends if I'm taking a crab or not ...

Why not just skip the headache of an auction and buy this one direct:

I understand the fascination with viewing VERY expensive stuff that Craig often markets but hasn’t there been enough instances here on this forum and elsewhere where he’s been found to be peddling fake stuff with a straight face such that the collector community starts responding the same way everyone did when Charlie Snyder was still around.

I mean, wasn’t there a desk set a while ago that was bogus and my last recollection was some phony documents but then, admittedly, I don’t pay much attention to Gottlieb anymore. I don’t visit his site or review his offerings because he’s proven himself, in the past, to be huckster pitching any manner of stories to hawk his wears to the collector community.

Sure, he’s got stuff that will pass the muster but let’s remember that even the good ‘Colonel’ Snyder offered ‘original’ stuff now and again as did our retired friend Norbert Graetz. It seems to me that folks who’ve demonstrated a certain elastic morality and a tendency for loquacious prevarication should be avoided rather than sitting down with him and spinning the cylinder only to hope that, on your turn, the hammer will fall on one of the five (or three, or…) empty chambers.

Just my opinion, of course. Then again, I’m just a cynical old SOB.

                  Hallo Chris

My humble thought: I would be very curious to see the stitching of the lining because, in my modest opinion, the logo is original. CW used this logo on his visors: See post no. 14

                  http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...meister+klasse

In this case, we know also that the sweatband bears on the left side the inscription WIRKLICH Stirn u. Schläfendruckfrei D.R.P. U. D.R.G.M. just below a small embossed CW logo, but I do not see any trace of that on the CG’s visor, at least from the available images. If Mike mjfur is tuned, it would be very interesting to see all his LW cap for a total comparison.

But it was also used in the fakes: See post no. 353/354:

                  https://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/for...206193&page=24

The differences are obvious and, as I want to be concise, I am not here to discuss and highlight them.

                  Best regards

Perhaps someone can correct me; My thoughts were that when you see 'fuzzy piping', that's a Red Flag. Is that correct ?

Was there something wrong with the desk set?

Russian roulette, many in our hobby love this game and the man with the gun they love most of all..
Bit of a fetish thing, that special feeling ..
Sexual disorder combined with militaria collecting brings the best customers and groupies, these people are highly appreciated by the sellers.
Ever tried to change someone who is heavily in love ?

                            Jos.

I no longer have the CW Luftwaffe cap and sadly no pictures of the sweatband, but YES the sweatband did have WIRKLICH Stirn u. Schläfendruckfrei D.R.P. U. D.R.G.M. on it.
