Why not and who's to say that they are all field/theatre made anyway? It's just another old gun show myth that seems to have stuck for far too long.

You only have to study the RZM lists of muetzenmachers to realise the war effort incorporated the whole of the German population, from big firms to individual artisans working in their homes on a single sewing machine. And those were just the ones who actually got RZM approval and recognition. Imagine the tens of thousands who worked for the Wehrmacht instead which we have no record of!?

I can only agree 100% with this Ben. But as we well know there many field made, cottage industry, etc type caps we've seen that are considered real, faked or doubtful at best. I'm not really sure where we draw the line on pre 45 or post 45 caps of this type. I've known Pauke since 1971 and do feel he has a very good knowledge for what's correct or not. I'm on the fence with this thread starter cap as these (without provenance) are always a gut feel sort of thing. Again I'm with you totally on your statement but it does provide a wide brush for justification of any non-standard cap. I do feel these caps will be a very tuff call for present and without a doubt future collectors.

I like it Patrick. I know from experience that there are some things that the camera cannot relay to the viewer- only seeing something in person and the actual feel of it in your hands can answer many questions. I hope that makes sense.
I also agree with what Ben said below: we will NEVER know how many "manufacturers", tailors, grandmother's, etc., that produced for the war effort and their beloved Fuhrer und Reich, yet were not RZM approved or authorized.

Tell me how hard it would have been for the german field tailors to obtain pebbled cap buttons, and in the eventuality that they had really been un available due to supply shortages could they not have used horn or other type buttons before casting their own? Really where was this cap really made :Replicanters from Pakistan? lol..
