For reasons I don't understand I can't post images but I've found another named RBNr cap — again on this forum, but again — sorry — without a link. If any of you can post the images for me, please email me and I'll send them to you. The cap, which has third pattern eagle and cockade, looks ok to me. Some of you may remember it as one of the eagle's wings looks like it has been nibbled through by a mouse. The number is 0/0721/0074 and the assocated name [… I can't read the first couple of letters] W. Obenha[…unreadable final letter — possibly 'f'] Karlsruhe, [followed by an address ending in 13]. The cap is dated 1943.
For what its worth, here's my list of apparently good (1943 or undated) RBNr nos on WW2 German army tropical caps:
0/0250/0906
0/0384/0066
0/0496/0340
0/0520/0017
0/0678/5015
0/0721/0074
0/0735/0022
0/0843/0008
0/0850/0387
0/1316/0014
These seem to be associated with caps of uncertain authenticity
0/0250/2487
0/0665/[…unreadable]
0/0678/5015
And these with fake caps
0/0520/0017
0/0708/000 [no last digit]

You have to be an Association Member to post images that will remain on the WAF, in your case highly encourage you to do so it will be worth the $35us ten times.
Ok nice work on the rbn#'s on tropical caps, lets expand it just a bit and make a correction or two...
0/0843/0012 is Mayser maker
0/0678/5015 is Franz Ritter and Johann Vogl
0/0520/0017 is HPC and these caps are original not fake, though there are fakes pretending to be this maker but that is true with many makers of tropical caps including CW and HB, Franz Ritter etc
0/0520/0017 is Hans Brandt, caps from Jan '43 to March '43 have not seen one dated later. These are the infamous beehive caps that have been "upgraded" post war with a soutache. If it does not have a soutache its an original.
Thanks Mike very interesting to match the maker with the rbn# on tropical caps. & don't think this study has been done by anyone to any extent ? Lets here it ??
So rbn# 0/0721/0074 is W. Obenhar Karlsruhe maker in '43.
Also should make a correction that the rbn# 0/0520/0017 Hans Brandt sidecaps are original with or without the soutache. earliest confirmed is 842 Aug '42 there are 1042's 1142's & 1242" as well, then the rbn# caps from Jan through March '43. The caps themselves are good just the soutache has been added to many post war after Aug '42 (842). There are fakes of HB sidcaps and M40's also so one must always be careful.
Ok have another correction to make. in the above posts #63 & 65 i state that Hans Brandt's rbn# is 0/0520/0017 which is wrong.
In the same post i state that the rbn# 0/0520/0017 is the maker HPC which is correct. I copied the wrong HB rbn# in my haste.
The correct Hans Brandt rbn# found on the sidecaps from the beehive cache is 0/0265/5044 these caps are dated from Jan '43 to March '43. 0265 is from Madgeburg. Thanks to NZMark for catching this mistake
Anyone else have anymore makers=rbn#'s, as its an interesting study ?
Here's another possible M40 RB-number for the collection — 0/0669/0036 or 0038. I know the size font is different but the layout of the stamps are similar and the caps very similar (same insignia application, same — rather unusual — under peak stitching. Any views?
All three caps are good. Would like a close-up of the gromments from the inside, of the Weitz PzGr officer cap, & the edelweiss possibly appears post war added ?
