"A fine example of a well worn Fallschirmjager Battalion 600 officer visor hat. Gray/green wool body, white wool piping that is soiled (more soiling on rear piping), black velvet band, leather visor, bullion chin cord, satin lining slightly soiled, sweat band unit marked on inside.

This unit was originally formed to combat partisans as battalion 500 in Aug 1943 (500 being a probationary battalion designation). The unit did so well that on 1 October 1944 the probationary designation was removed and the unit was designated as xx Fallschirmjager Battalion 600.


Battalion 500s first mission sent them to Yugoslavia to combat partisans and ended up taking Tito's headquarters. The battalion was then sent to the Narva front. In July 1944 it was sent to Lithuania and at the end of August it moved to East Prussian and the Austria and assigned to Otto Skorzeny. 1 October 1944 the unit was designated as battalion 600. January 1945 saw them formally assigned to Skorzeny's xx-Jagdverbande and defended the bridgehead at the Oder near Koenigsberg. The unit ended the war in the defense of Berlin escaping the Soviets and surrendering to US forces on 2 May 1945."
