I believe Dennis S just sold his factory guard M43 cap that was made in this same type of material... I like it for what my opinion is worth, what was it used for? Who knows. MattComment

I would say it is original, and probably not for standard military forces. But it is built like a military cap, not a civic type - maybe foreign volunteers?
I like it - it looks like an unusual cap that would be a lot of fun to research.
