clarification: I'd meant maybe the mark if stamped on the sweatshield wore off as we've seen happen sometimes. plus, for sure someone's fitted a replacement red felt onto the wreath cockade. anyhow thanks again for all comments. dw

imo, this hat is not what I would want to see in a officer's hat. on top of that, the placement of the chin cords and the reverse twist chin cords are not good signs. lets see what the others have to say.

      best regards, oldpainless

        thanks a lot oldpainless.

re chincords: the attachment buttons (which use split pins) have been in place a very very long time, which may or not be suggestive. also, the cords seem an earlier type than the usual alu-on-thread; almost if you look close what wittmann calls 'springy wire' in ref. to 2nd model lw dagger grips. but they're not, I think, the silver bullion type seen on real early caps.

as to the fit I dont know. sometimes the chin straps get bowed outwards with time, as with this one, causing 'gaps or whatever. doesn't look that weird to me - we've all seen wartime pix with looser ones, some hanging halfway down the visor - and a lot more that have gone missing altogether!

back to root question, tho: what branch??

The badges may be real but the cap is definitely bad.

astonishing. from a little old faker in latvia, maybe? or do you recognize a 'signature style' like an aged jahnke, replicators, or whomever? thanks. btw - I also love 'if.'

I don't know who exactly made these, but I do remember caps with similar features as far back as the '80's. They may be older than that of course.

Yes, good old Rudyard was one hell of a writer!
