more of the same. I hope everyone is getting an idea of what to look for. It seems the trend of slapping chaplain insignia on medical hats is dwindleing, however you still do see it. Some of these can be confusing, some are outright attempts to cheat you out of a LOT of cash.

Take you time, check the piping. You are tring to find one of the rarest hats out there. Five minutes can save you a lot of heartbreak later on.

The one that always irritated me. Looking at this, I see medical, however it was 100% and named. A great hat. But flashes can bring out the wrost in a color sometimes. An example to get good photography

Another that turned purple. The piping was great in the sunlight. And I think it was 100% original violet piping at some time in history. On this hat though.....was my first experience with a Frankie.

Look at the cross also on this hat. Now it is a Frankie, and it has the pot metal cross on it. The cross looked very worn, and the hat looked very new--mint. This is a dead giveaway in my opinion the cross was added. Now can I saw when the cross was made, no. But comparing it to the silver one I have shown, and the one coming up.....

          (my opinion only)

A horrible - nasty excuse for a fake bullion cross. I think this came off SOLDAT and is being sold (or was) as a horrible nasty fake. This cross didnt exist during the III Reich, and is a total fantasty attempting to reproduce something the faker knew nothing about. Except.....the next hat...look closely.

A visor that sold for a lot of money. Was a total reworked fake. It started out life as a real III Reich hat, but in the end it was a Chaplain Frankie. However, even if you could not tell it was a rebuild.....look at the insignia and cross. Dead giveaway this hat has been fooled with

Another one. The piping on this hurts my eyes..Now these guys didnt seperate the cross from the wreath. There seems to be discussion at one point of prototype wreaths had a once piece construction like the Kriegsmarine ones did. If there were such Heer prototypes, that is all they were, prototypes. I have never seen one on a real hat.

Angolia has some photos of them. They came from Adolf Schlidt (sp??). I am not sure where he got them.

Two sloppy crosses. One on a hat that could decieve people (until NTZ and STONEMINT looked at it a long long time ago) -- the second should not decieve anyone (it did).

Both crosses are loose in the bullion and sloppy. Someone took the pattern of the second style Kriegsmarine Navy tabs and tried to apply it to a cross for a visor hat. The cross has none of the tight stitching I have shown on the crusher posted. It is loose, and with pressure you could crack open the threads and see the inside of the cross.

Again I bring up SS insiniga. BrigadeFuher insignia is TIGHT, as are the vertical Totenkophs. Crosses should be the same. Tight, into the hat, and stiff to the touch. Copare these to the Navy tabs I will post later

Thanks a ton for the response!!! I hope no one gets irritated. The only reason I want to do this is to help other collectors.

Here is a hat that is amazing from forum member Kurt. I want to display this, as it has much of the things we have been talking about.

--crusher hat, with violet piping. The piping has faded, which is totally proper if this chaplain ever wore the hat outside.
--side grommets for chinstrap. Totally acceptable.
--metal silver washed cross. Again, if this was a pot metal style cross, I would wonder at its date. But being silver---I like it

Piping fading. If the chaplain saw any action in the summer, this would be common. Esspecially in Russia or the Med

piping again...this is the same problem with the flash and photography I have had. It should look more red. I have seen other shots, it does.
