    I do agree with Mark on this point and, after looking at it this morning, I think it is more than likely that a previous owner has added the bill from a reproduction cap. The difference between a sidecap and a M40 in both value and scarcity is vast.

      I am learning a lot here. When I bought this item (AAG International in 1995) it was stated "Afrikakorps period cap". I know that saying "Afrikakorps" should come with any kind of proof, but my hope was that this one was at least an original tropical M40.

      Well, now I have a "mysterious" and altered cap in my hands...
