Insignia holes, disregard the one to the far right, it is from the bogus LW wreath that was added.

Finally an answer, this is an early post war Polizei white top, here is its relative.

Basel, it still has to be pretty rare even for BRD. The construction is typical TR. Just a matter of finding the right insignia.

The Stamp is a very Early West Berlin Police, as it is still with the GB fro "Grossberlin", but I must say, I never saw a Cap with removanle Top. If you need a Star, I have some left.

Thank you! Exactly how early are we talking, 1946? What type of insignia would go on the cap band?

                    BaselA,

Date would probably be in the 50s. The polizei star on the PP Berlin winter hat shown earlier on this thread was worn on the cap band. No other badges were worn on these caps until sometime in the 60s. The polizei star was then moved to the top of the white section of the cap and an aok leaf with a BRD cockade in the centre was placed on the cap band. These white topped caps were standard wear for all police on the beat. They usually had blue piping arond the crown. I've never seen a cap like yours with a removable white top.

                    Regards,

                    Gordon

It could have been a summer cap for an enlisted sonderfuhrer but after seeing the stamps its indeed a very early post war Berlin police visor!
                      Nice research

Thank you very much Gordon. There are some holes on the cap band that look like they came from a wreath and cockade. Also, there is also a trace of a badge on the white top. Perhaps I should add both insignia. When you get a chance, I'd love to see a photo of a complete example if you have one.

                          BaselA,

I would say, from looking at your photos, that the holes in the top were made by someone adding TR insignia, not PP Berlin. The wooly looking cap band on your cap definitely puts it in the very early Berlin polizei time period and it sholud not have both insignia. Onlt the star on the cap band. I'll illustrate this tomorrow when I post my pictures.

                          Regards,

                          Gordon
