          Grüß Di' Ferdinandmax,

Very interesting Bergmütze, but it seems to be missing some classic traits usually seen on original Bergmützen IMHO. Do you have any more information about this cap?

Would like to hear what other cap experts think.

          Berg Heil,

this cap as the Mueller were found in Graz in the 70's were my first caps of mountain troops. In Graz, Austria Gebirgs regiments were many, and where he lived for a very long time General Dietl had a beautiful villa on a still existing , the construction of the cap is normal with a very fine fabric in those days there were no false, but because the caps cost 50 euros and less than today, a collector should be able to recognize a fake from an original, plus the Bergmuetze made in Austria have a different style from those made in Germany, I remind you that the Feldmuetze born in Austria already in 1890 by Regulation greetings sergio

I particularly like the way the cloth visor is done in this cap (see photo). It is reminiscent of how some original SS M-37 NCO visors were made that I know were 100% original.

Just because it doesn't conform to German Bergmuetzen doesn't make it a fake. I think a fake should be based on the standard German design . Perhaps this is a pre-war Austrian model rebadged after the Anschluss, though I believe the Austrians had two buttons as well. Looks more like a German Customs Bergmuetz..

                      Servus Sergio und Bergkameraden,

Thanks for the information and input. There are definitely more than enough Bergmütze variations to last a lifetime of collecting...especially with officer private purchase / tailor-made types.

I am by no means an expert, but I have been researching and collecting Gebirgsjäger militaria for almost 30 years. It never ceases to amaze me that there is always something new to learn or discover.

the photo is a Lieutenant in the Gendarmerie in the times of the republic of Dolfuss, these caps were gray and not green but the shape is equal to the First World War hats Ski Heil sergio

Many thanks for the identification of the Gandarmerie Leutnant in the portrait.

Also, some very beautiful WWI Austrian caps you have...thanks for sharing. Good to see some of the Austrian sewing/construction techniques.
