Lack of false piping on WSS cap IMO is not a big concern, but it affect the value IMO.
The false piping is typical of the WSS side cap, and it's the major difference
with the KM coastal artillery cap.
If the lining is generic and not marked BAK, there isn't difference between
a CA and a WSS cap except the false piping, you could easily imagine how
many CA cap were converted to WSS for commercial reasons..

    So,normally :

    WSS : false piping
CA : no false piping ( In rare occasion with)
LW : false piping (in very rare occasion without)

Yours seems OK , but the "non-textbook" construction will stay away some collectors if you sell it in the future.

I can see a 90° angle at the left of the mark that was supposedly left by the TK. Looks more like a mark from a cockade (standard on a KM and CA OS cap). Look for diamond-shaped stitching on the front.
On the other hand, lots of WSS OS caps were made without the false piping...

Probably..WSS used 6 buttons heer tunics too.
But in both case, out of my confort zone.

When I had the cap in hand I looked to see if I could see evidence of a TK or a cockade and I thought it looked ok but as I stated before I've had very little experience with headgear. I'm only interested in Waffen SS items and I want to make certain what I'm spending my money on is WSS not KM. Next time I see the hat I will be very sure to give it a through inspection.

Thanks! I looked at the thread and it was very educational.

From the start on this thread I've seen the cockade and thought the area with the pile remaining was too small for a skull. Add to that the sloppy hand-applied eagle and lack of the crown false piping and .......

Thanks to all who commented. Ian, I don't have an answer for that but perhaps someone with experience could help you out. It's a good question though.
