Ok, it's always very very tough to judge black cloth from photos, especially with the flash on.

I still would not want this cap though. I can't give you specific things that are wrong, just gut reactions and my gut is screaming that this one isn't original.

That's not much help I know but most M43 collectors will tell you the same I think. It's not something you can put into words, it's more of an instinct based on experience.

Agreed, trap is real but the application is errr..contrived? Is that a good word? What I'm trying to say is that if you asked someone to sew a trap onto a cap and gave them some original examples to look at, this is what they would come up with. But it's just not authentic IMO.

This is very true, and therefore I feel reluctant to make a final judgement on this cap.
Although from what the photo's show I'm not yet convinced, I still think you should see it in the flesh and feel the cloth - especially when the odds are against an item - before ruling it out in total. It's been wrote many times before, but a potentialy good thing can turn into bad overnight...

As I don't want to disturb chosen mans initial thread I will start a new thread regarding SS M43 grey caps when I have some new pictures. Thanks for all the input so far.

My meager opinion

Had the great pleasure of looking at an authentic SS officer's M43 cap at the Max. It was a "one looker" if there can be such a thing regarding SS caps, and it had no construction details in common with the caps on this thread.

Have seen Italian produced Heer and Luftwaffe M43 caps and their construction, and wool, differs as well.
