Original Schellenberg Visor?

I guess there is such a thing as Karma - I was able to get the cap finally last week. It is definitely a wartime cap, but WAAAAAY late war. I am in the process of getting it back into round, so I didn't take a ton of pics yet, but the band wool and body wool have quite a bit of wood fiber content - I tried to take a few pics to show the bits. The peak siffener was seperated from the caap body, so I maqnaged to get it back into place and it looks pretty good now. I see no evidence of any sort of forehead pressure relief device on the cap, so I think they were using earlier sweat shields up until the bitter end!

The cap band is an odd dark brownish green wool.

I can never explain it, but there is something about these "last ditch" visors that has always intrigued me....

The neat thing to observe in hand is that it is the material that suffered late in the war, but not the craftsmanship - it is still a really well-made visor, albeit with sub-par materials compared to pre and early war caps. I always wondered why there were so many early to mid-war caps out there compared to late-war versions, given the expansion of the Wehrmacht. Now I think I know!

Just as a matter of interest have you replaced the visor cord as the original looked golden and currently its silver and is that the original Eagle . Cheers Rob

Hi Robb -

The eagle as far as I know is original tot he cap - the cord was replaced as the original was really loose (ie too long) and I was fairly certain it would not have come that way from the factory.
