Robb,
I'm not aware of fakes but I'm sure they exist. You could buy as early as Sept '99 badges and flag's etc on the streets of Pristina. But then you had their Flag Day in October and the elections so there were loads of flags, which are Albanian not Kosovan, thats what you have on the side of your helmet.
I was with the first ground troops AGRICOLA 1 and the first full length tour by British troops I spent 7 months plus in that hole including Christmas and the New Year 2000 (great I'd just spent the previous X mas & NY in Bosnia yet again)
The beret badges were as I remember just round badges, active troops still up to illegal activities wore dark red and black ones which were smaller overall. They had berets sure but you'd see them mostly in camo 'base ball' style army caps with red/yellow badges. The badges you show are all post conflict.
The early conflict style badges were a 'jumble' mixture of plastic and cloth/home made. The plastic one's having holes top and bottom to sew on the badge.
The shield type ones were worn from memory on the left arm in no particular place. I have as much time for the KLA- UCK now TMK as I do the IRA.
TMK is of course Kosovo Protction Corps.
We spent a bit of time in their HQ on the outskirts of Pristina and even conducted an operation which lead to the arrest of one of their KLA-UCK generals for war crimes.

Thanks for that Marcus ,I suppose its very diferent for someone who has been there ,rather than someone who just tried to make heads and tails of what was going on out there on the news. I went to the library to find some books about the conflict in Bosnia and it wasnt pleasant reading ,RobGod please take justin bieber and gave us dio back

Hi all,
I was there in the first day of june 99 (and in makedonia since february...) at the end of july it started to be difficult to find UCK badges and beret , i only have one UCK badge and one beret with badge and they are "home made". I think that all that you can find is local made but afterwar. For the helmet it's a French helmet (i'm not 100% sure it's "war" made, UCK soldier wear equipment from Switzerland, Germany, and Serbia, i've nerver seen UCK "soldier" with French helmet , but maybe???? )
