Does anyone have a time frame for when a cap like this would have been made. It is often mentioned that a non TR item is typically from the eighties or nineties. Sometimes it is referred that repros made in the seventies and earlier lack quality and where not very good. Any chance that this cap is older than thirty years. Any ideas, opinions on this. Jacques

Tough question. I did some research into the Halfar caps and when and where they might have come from but I never did find anything conclusive. The wall of silence comes up pretty quick when you start digging.

I have some very simple advice regarding those searching for an original black panzer M43... Give up now and save yourself a lot of heartache in the future...

No one should give up their search for the perfect Panzer M43.

You can buy one now if it is not already gone from the Collectors Guild's lastest up date for a modest US $5,355 before postage and other charges.

Sort of makes US $2,100 and US $2,500 look reasonable if not down right cheap in comparison when you stop and think about

A case of get them while their hot I fear,

                    Chris

The Collectors Guild's cap is not a one look original either IMO.

This time, I am holding back commenting on the caps in this thread because I do not see how it will help either party no matter what side of the fence they are on.

Suffice to say that I like to see these M43 caps in general analysed in detail point by point and compared with known originals on each aspect. I like to hear the points for and the points against then I add them up to get a total.

Only un-answered question nagging in my mind is about the trap which does not seem to be the commonly seen garden variety like on the Collectors Guild example.

The remarkable thing out of all of this is the prices these are now selling for, first I hear $2000+ now $5000+ what next $7500+ and in an economic meltdown as well .

Other remarkable thing is how they sell, I have not meet one dealer who has not been able to move one despite what we all say here. One just said to me last week that he sells all he can get off his web site within two weeks and to be honest if he does get an example then they often never make it to the up-dates such is the waiting list for them.

Interesting items in more ways than one for sure but very risky perhaps,

                          Chris

I wouldn't give $100 for either of the repro/forgery caps. So not really sure how cheap that makes them.

                              Christian,
can you let us know if Scott has offered your friend his money back. I think we all want to follow this and make sure it does not go the way of the Jaques cap. I am sure it will be made right. It is a point of character, collectors with something bad have to dump it and take the hit, not foist it on another unsuspecting collector. If it a mistake, fine, but as soon as we find out, we make good for it and correct the error. I would like to hear what is going on in this respect.
