Value of a early mountain cap/bergmütze

Hi Guys I have a chance to buy a early made bergmutze cap. It does have two very small mouth holes on one side (the size of a pencil lead) and the T shaped eagle has been removed. The cloth is worn down the the base material on about 80% of it. The sweat band goes all the way around and is in very good shape (no tears ETC) The two smooth buttons appear to be made of wood.
I know it's hard to put a value on this with out seeing it but a fair ball park would be would be a great help. The guy wants 225.00 for the cap.

Thanks For any help David R.

If original then $225 is a bargain.

A bargain would be an understatement. I would be wary if it is coming from a dealer -- something too good to be true usually isn't good.

the cap is from a collector who has decided to sell some of his unwanted stuff in a antique mall not too far from my house. I have seen him around for at least 20 plus years. The only thing I have never seen is the leather sweat band going all the way around. Is that Ok on this early cap ??

                    BUY IT NOW!

What else has he got? If it were me, I'd clear out my savings account and buy the whole lot if they're as cheap and as nice as this one.

The unit stamp inside makes no sense.

I would assume the lack of a grommet would indicate it is a private purchase cap? Jacques

No, it doesn't make any sense, what's a Bergmutze doing with a Panzer regiment stamp and no grommets?

The other side of the coin is what would be the motivation of a faker making a copy of a Bergmutze but then forgetting to add grommets, age it but make sure the nap was still present under the eagle, and then mark it with an obscure regiment stamp from a division that was only in existence from November 1938 to August 1939? Oh and then sell it for peanuts?

I'd buy it for $225 just to have those beautiful buttons and edelweiss!

Ah but I believe many mountain divisions had anti tank units...JMHO Billbert

Well I now own the cap. Any idea what it's worth? Does it have a designation like M43,M42 ETC: AND thanks for all of the help with this.
I guess I'm in search of a correct emblem for it. I don't have a problem with trying to put it back correct.
The guy that has the booth is selling some items real cheep and some at 4 times the real value Go figure?? I bought a K43 magazine for 40.00 last week.
