        Actualy, lacquer is the wrong description of what was used to coat the peaks of some of these caps. It was more probably a mixture of Shellac or Mastic and some other natural ingredient. That's why it moves around on the surface of the leather, unlike a chemical lacquer which is brittle in comparrison.

          Ben, what do you think of the visible stitching on the sweatband. From the picture it does not look like the original stitching. Jacques
