The insignia looks to be the white cotton version, very nice.

Looks like flat silver wire to me. A very desirable waffenfarbe.

                  This monitor at work sucks.

It sure is a nice looking cap.

                    Karl,
Looks like a good one to me, and a very desirable waffenfarbe. It would look great in your collection.

I'd be careful with this one. Notice the gap between the ridge of lacquer on the peak and the cap frame. If the peak is original to the cap, it's not sitting where it once was.

That seems to be pretty common with this type hat. Perhaps due to expansion/contraction (heat?) of laquered leather in storage?

Mike, that one is fine but the cav cap has a very big gap.
I've seen this before and in some cases it's because the cap has been left sitting on it's peak for so long, the stitches have popped and the whole peak has moved upwards. With these you usualy see remains of the lacquer stuck to the cap frame.
In other cases, it's evident that the peak has come off completely and been resewn in the wrong position and sometimes it's obvious that the peak came off a completely different cap.
If I was interested in buying this one, I'd be checking the sewing holding the peak on very carefully.
