I believe I did. And from the pictures provided this too appears to be an Original pre May '45 constructed item; as to it being SS, there my "approval" will end.

I take offense to that, the cap you show, I sold, but just because it has similar markings, it does not mean the cap that started the thread is original. My cap was original and was a Heer example with a rayon lining and is a known original maker of M43 caps. I would apprecaite your removing that kind of wording when referring to me.

        Mr Singer,

Spot on! I was only referring to exactly what you just stated, that this base hat was a pre May '45 item. I remember the controversy about SS items with RBNR numbers and was trying to establish the cap itself as period made.

        Gerard,

I think you have misunderstood Sayle F completely. He was using sarcasm by posting an obviously original cap from the same maker and using your sterling reputation to refute the cries of "fake". Most forum members know your reputation and integrity in regards to originality including Sayle F. The markings in all caps shown are identical except for size and wear. It happens to be a well established maker and I think the only controversy should be whether they made SS caps too, not whether they are an original maker of caps.

I agree. Since this maker is established as a wartime producer, the important question that remains is was the insignia applied during or after the war?

            Gerard,

I agree that Sayle was not trying to say your hat was fake, but just the opposite. Many are not familiar with all the markings of caps, to include myself. I just know this is a good maker of heer caps because I have an original by this maker.

I do not have any interest in owning any Waffen-SS cap with RB numbers, but this is just a personal prejudice.

For those interested, that topic has been discussed here:

OK, perhaps I jumped the gun, it was early this morning and I hadn't had my coffee yet. I sometimes am guarded as perhaps a new collector, not knowing me, might not get the sarcasm. Anyway, no problem, thanks for explaining. Sayle, my apologies for the assumption.
