Notice how poorly the visor is fitted to Hausser's cap. Not exactly what one would expect from fine German wartime manufacturing processes, hey? And on one of the highest ranking (and most respected) SS General's caps to boot! I wonder if this historically important piece would be reduced to the ranks of a 'rework' by today's 'experts'? Anomolies clearly occured.

All the more evidence in my mind that it was a Pekuro. As nice as it is , the velvet Stirndruckfrei feature never held up well under field conditions .

The provinance on this piece is pretty iron-clad and the eagle has been discussed. I am unaware that Bob Hritz has any real issues with the eagle. Please check with him if you like. I have seen the piece in-hand and I like it a lot.

Interesting; despite his "unfamiliarity" with the eagle, a faint rumor was that he was considering buying it himself (perhaps I am wrong).

This whole thread points out the problem with buying one of these "controversial" pieces of headgear. Alright so you must know the piece in your own mind, and be 100% sure it's genuine. Say you have 50 years experience in the field & are sure it's 100% good. What do you do when it comes time to sell & the "experts" (AKA potential buyers) disagree that's its real. You sell it to the one who agrees with you? What if no one agrees with you, are you SOL? The whole thing is an Alice in Wonderland experience, at best not for the faint of heart, loaded with double-crossers, BS artists, and fakers.
