Anomolies clearly occured.
All the more evidence in my mind that it was a Pekuro. As nice as it is , the velvet Stirndruckfrei feature never held up well under field conditions .

Maybe his big head popped the stiches?

Looks like he had a few belts and schnapped the visor.

I like the beret a lot and thinking of buying it. Any opinions?

PM Bob Hritz. If I recall correctly, he had some issues with the eagle (which he posted on another forum).

The provinance on this piece is pretty iron-clad and the eagle has been discussed. I am unaware that Bob Hritz has any real issues with the eagle. Please check with him if you like. I have seen the piece in-hand and I like it a lot.

See the thread entitled "New SS Visors" in the SS Uniforms and Insignia forum of www.warrelics.eu . Bob simply stated he had never seen this type of eagle before.

Interesting; despite his "unfamiliarity" with the eagle, a faint rumor was that he was considering buying it himself (perhaps I am wrong).

This whole thread points out the problem with buying one of these "controversial" pieces of headgear. Alright so you must know the piece in your own mind, and be 100% sure it's genuine. Say you have 50 years experience in the field & are sure it's 100% good. What do you do when it comes time to sell & the "experts" (AKA potential buyers) disagree that's its real. You sell it to the one who agrees with you? What if no one agrees with you, are you SOL? The whole thing is an Alice in Wonderland experience, at best not for the faint of heart, loaded with double-crossers, BS artists, and fakers.

I was surely interested, but the owner turned down my offer. The eagle is an unusual pattern, but definately original.

In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king.

Duct tape can't fix stupid, but it can muffle the sound.
