Trying to obatain this visor and a banner from a cook from my mother's restaraunt. His father brought them back from the war and they have been in a box ever since. Unfortunately the visor is out of shape and the inside has come apart, the labels inside are gone also. I know it's legit but was wanting to know what branch of service and value of the visor in this condition.

Hat,
For starters, the skull is a good M1/24 and the eagle looks OK too from what I can see. Starting with good insignia may mean the hat is OK as well. If real, it is an WSS EM hat with upgrade cord for an officer. I think this might be a legit piece.

I am assuming the band is wool and not velvet from the photos. Given the poor condition of the hat, maybe the band is velvet and it IS an officer grade hat.
