What is up with this cap?

    Hello,

I just picked up a lot of items from a vet yesterday and this NCO Pioneer's visor cap was among the items. Look at the insignia. Is this correct? It appears that it has been there for a long time. I do like this hat though.

    Thanks.

The dark green band is missing, it's got a Reichsbahn wreath .... can't see an nco getting away with that for too long ... perhaps a collector/vet add on after the band was removed or destroyed ?

                  Ian.

                    Thanks Ian,

I didn't even totice that! What a bummer! I should have caught that. I'm going to ask the vet.

I don't know about the vent holes but to me it looks like a Reichswehr (Weimar era) cap based on the early "apple" green cap band (later switched to dark green for WH)
or is the dark green cap band indeed removed? I don't see any indication of that...glue residue or something) Based on its shape it does look more third Reich than Weimar era...
but still to me it could still be a Reichswehr private purchase engineers visor with correct lighter cap band + obvious incorrect Reichsbahn wreath added (easy to fix).
Coincidently here's my Reichswehr cap which I just received today (fixer-upper) also with cap band in a lighter shade of green. Is it one of those?

                        Nick,

I do not see any glue residue at all. The Cockade looks like yours, black outer ring, gold and then red cloth in the center. My piping is black.

That's a good sign Thorn, no cap band removed...
check out this thread! (but I can't explain the vent holes...=civil usually)

Thanks Nick, I'll check it out. I'll let you know what the vet has to say about it once I speak to him.

The maker is Clemens Wagner. Has anyone seen a TR cap with this CW logo? I'm leaning towards Weimar era. or very early TR.
