    Nick,
Thanks soooo much for that picture and the info! I have been looking for something similar all day but without any luck. Thanks to all of you!

This cures my headache for now. Switching eagles it is!!!

So, is this a rare visor and insignia?

Whats the ebay auction number? or just post the image!

Thorn looking at the cap with the grommets I'm now more and more convinced its indeed a bahnschutz visor as the color is more blue-ish green than field grey green.
The war time cap band for those is supposed to be black, yours = green but it might be an early one? The waffenfarbe piping would work for Bahnschutz which is para-military which explains the grommets better! (Heer is really a rare exception. Its not an engineers Heer cap with the wrong wreath, Its Bahnschutz with the wrong eagle which made its way on to the other cap (not a coincidence!).
Swap the eagle and it will look nice (eagle matching the wreath) for railroad protection!
This Bahnschutz cap that I found on an old web image shows a white-ish color waffenfarbe though... but the shoulderboards are piped black???

          and the BS tunic (Bahnschutz)

BS tunic! Its changed hands a couple of times since I've tracked it (rare) and I even considered buying it... I kept an image of it. Collar tabs and shoulderboards have black farbe which matches the cap that started this thread.

            .

Here are some new pics. Look! Eagle switched! Taaa-Daaa!

I also took a pic of the outer band that shows no glue residue, and one pic shows that the wreath and cockade have been there for awhile. Look at all that old crudd! And finally, the vent holes.

That sure looks Bahnshutz blue-ish green to me. Its interesting that the cap band is not black and the piping is black...instead of grey-ish white...So this must be somekind of transitional piece (in comparison with image of visor in post 33) Nice piece! Now with corrected eagle!
                    Congrats! Nick

I had a Customs hat with 2 airhole vents on the sides, everyone thought it was a joke - my Pioneer
