      I know...it's me!!!!

I did take quite a beating and ended up with a knot on the forehead but all turned out well!

I have been enjoined from bringing up names etc. and will adhere to this in an attempt to keep this thread from being closed.

As stated in a different thread one needs to consider the 'source' of the item and therafter consider the source of the person(s) critizing it.

These early reproductions are scary to those who saw them evolve...I can imagine how a newer collector could fall afoul of these.

Thanks Doug! Your cap is a very early form of AltesteMutze and likely from early 60's....

As stated these are very dangerous fakes and still today are part of some major collections.

SS officers visor cap inside pic

no maker mark of any kind on sweatshield or lining, a piece of the cork has seperated in the front under the sweatband.

I wonder how many Alteste's are stitting in pride of place in people's collections and they just haven't a clue? quite a few I'd imagine.

Ben, it is indeed sad when one thinks of this.... but conversely that a posting like this doesn't generate interest!

Experts (so called?) have vetted this sort of cap, why?

Maybe, it's best to just watch the trend of 'prove it isn't period' and shake one's head in disbelief rather than be involved!!
                        Regards,
