If I'm right, this type of bergmütze can be seen on this picture of Bill Petz. (thanks in advance)

I hate to piss on anyone's chips but when I saw this one on ebay, I had doubts and still do to be honest. Not the typical insignia for a bergmutze and the stitching looks a bit strange. Only a hands on would confirm though.

I notice different colors of thread used in the construction...also different color thread in the insignia application. Why?

Different colors thread isn't a problem, the triangle is kinda zig-zag handsewn as I see it..

Yes, I agree with the handsewn look of the zig-zag.
I disagree about no problem with different color threads.

The above post is referring to tunics, but I think equally applies insignia on soft headgear.

The grommets also look huge! I would like to see some photos of the reverse...

different color threads in cap construction is not a problem for originals ,it would be interesting to see some more pics ,inside grommets, liner cose up and a straight on shot of the insignia and application tech.
Give a man an opinion and you feed him for a day,
teach a man to use the "search" function on the WAF and you feed him for a lifetime.

                            (sigh)

I guess I'm bucking the consensus on this one. Just to be clear, I'm not referring to the different color thread for the buttonholes. In this instance, the buttonhole type on the subject cap is made with a specialized machine using buttonhole "gimp" and I'd expect it to be different.

What I was questioning was the 2 colors of top stitching, one nearly on top of the other, on the ear flaps as seen best in Post #3. It goes against my sense of logic of economy of scale to have small lots of differing thread fed out to assembly workers in the same plant for similar sewing operations. I'm not saying this necessarily makes a cap bad...just a trait I'd want to look at closer and understand why rather than just blithely accepting it.

I do believe the insignia is probably a replacement.
