I have never liked these. I have had a few in hand and I can find no connection to the Erel’s we all know and love. I have never seen enough consistency in these. They have a wide mix of shapes and sweatbands. About the only thing that is consistent is the lining and pressed paper visor. Let’s call it a personal preference.

This one even adds to my skepticism. The cap looks never to have been used (which almost all of them are like) yet the reverse of the sweatband shows marks and aging. The front pleats also look messed with. Sorry guys I know this can of worms keeps re-opening but I am satisfied with the late war Schellenberg’s and Pekuro’s because they show consistency in construction and materials. These late war Erel’s looks to be a mix of parts all the time.

Hello,
This is a textbook original late war Erel cap.
It is as mentioned by someone not as nice in quality and material as the early ones.
And naturally any collector can have a preference not to collect the late war ones as they are not as nice and the material is not a good.
However it seems a lot of the "know-it-all" collectors have confused themself with that their preference is the same as original.
Do not confuse yourself with that as if you study original period photos you will see these type of cap worn on several on them. I have also seen many of these late war ones in well worn condition as well as directly from veterans hands. Then I mean the real veteran who was wearing it.
On this forum you could not even convince some collectors if the "real" veteran still was attached to the hat that it is original
Cheers

No one to date has posted an example from a "German" vet. I can care less about GI Joe who never seen action and grabbed one during occupation. That type of vet find supports my theory. If you have one from a German vet and or a photo of one in wear please do show. I am not so certain how you will know it is a late war Erel from a photo though, unless the inside was photographed. Late war caps in general are not being questioned, just Erel’s. The only “vet” finds of these I have seen were unissued and picked up while in Germany after the war. Show us the proof and put this to bed. Thank you.

You are the EXPERT, you show they did not exist.
For me they are all originals and I have no problem, you have the problem so you own it.
