Glenn and Mike,
I'm glad your both in agreement, you remain consistant. As a matter of fact the panzer general's cap did belong to Grant (Hohenstaufen), as does still the panzer pioneer officers cap. I guess he got lucky on one cap out of two. Maybe he should ask George Petersen for his money back since he was paid to do a "hands on" inspection before purchase of the panzer generals sidecap and gave it a "thumbs up". I'm sure you two have been at this a lot longer than Petersen and are much more world traveled dealing in militaria.

Sometimes there is a difference of opinion between students(collectors) of the goods AND pruveyors (once collectors now dealers also whom now sell to EAT and PROFIT)... respect to all in this discussion...Billbert
Often times collectors learn alot in a small specific area....
Many times dealers have less specific but more broad based knowledge needed...
Many times dealers seek the advise of their specialty collectors....
If one where to let veteran collectors throw the fakes and reworks on tables into a big pile..I m quite sure most of us would be AMAZED..

It makes no difference to me if Mr Petersen likes it or not,It does not change my opinion any... I would be much more comfortable with an opinion on such a hat from say Mr Singer,Speer etc.
I have seen way too many of these exact same hats, all constructed the same (materials etc) for my liking. Do you realize how exceedingly rare such a hat is?

Look, I can't pretend to like something that I don't. It matters not to me who has owned it or vetted it before, I render my opinion honestly. I have been looking at this stuff intently since the '60s but that doesn't mean I don't make mistakes. However, I don't think this occasion is one of them.
