Certainly does not add to credibility as a high end dealer if he can not the most essential in SS insignias himself, even more worrying when his sources does not eather.....wonder if the cap would also be 54.000 US $???

If these insignia are bad, and as easy to identify as bad as the experts here claim, isnt this an alarming clue as to the credibility of the dealer?

Too bad a useful thread is now polluted by mud-slinging from the "usual suspects" . . . . Hey the hat isn't mine, isn't being sold by me, and I posted the pictures not to be ridiculed, but to add meaningful discussion as a contributing memer of this forum. So what's your problem, Texas? If the insignia on the hat are fakes, they are fakes - so what?

I know people want a dealer to be an expert in every aspect of militaria. Well guess what? Dealers are generalists - we know a good deal about a lot of things, and when we don't know something, we know who to ask. One measure of a good dealer is the amount of "oopses" that appear on his website, offering, or on his table. And for that, I have a good record that I am proud to stand behind.

In reality, it's the specialist collector who is the true expert in his or her chosen "micro field" and any dealer who doesn't admit that is smoking dope. Had the item appeared on my site, you'd have more of a gripe. But it didn't.

Craig, you say "if the insignia on the hat are fakes, they are fakes - so what?", but you came on here and declaratively stated that the insignia were good:

the credibility issues that this creates is troublesome...

'Vetted with one of the hobby's finest'? If you say so... Again, if you cant identify a repro, (and from what i understand, an easily identifiable repro) and your trusted sources cant either, where does that leave you?

Several helpful members chimed in to point out that the insignia is indeed bad:

yet you respond with terms like 'polluted' and 'mudslinging'...we are all potential customers of yours, and your absolute contempt and total disdain towards anybody who questions you, your knowledge and/or your products doesnt make sense to me. I cant understand it.

                I'm not !!

And referring to people who point out your errors as 'the usual suspects' will help your cause no-end ! I admitt we all make errors ... your's is that you need a new insignia expert.

Thanks for the redirect, Stonemint. I wonder if these are all coming from the same person? The guy who sent me the first visor is sending me 2 more, which, after speaking to him on the phone, are also probably reproductions. When I get them, I'll post photos for commentary. I will also inspect all three to see if I can identify any repeating characteristics, which might indicate that they are coming from the same source. Whatever the source, the tragedy is that someone is probably destroying perfectly good Heer visors to make these pieces.

By the way, I just received the two additional visors this gentleman owns. Both are as fake as a $3 bill. It's not even worth posting photos - the velvet is wrinkly and not attached correctly, the piping is too big, there are extra holes from the conversion, the chin-strap on the EM is not real, etc etc etc. They are void of insignia, and real insignia on them would stand out like a sore thumb.
