        I Agree That This Is A Fake. What Is Interesting Is The Fact That This Hat Supposedly Belonged To A Doctor. Besides The Rank Error, The Style Of Writing Would Be Considered Childish
        For A Man Who Held The Position And Title Of Doctor.

          I didn't pay much mind to the name to be honest but the black lining, unmarked shield and rollover s-band are exactly what I would expect to see in a real Officers cap though.

            I agree with Gerard. That synthetic-looking wide-rib trikot is pure Janke and an immediate dead give-away. The rest, like the original sweatband and visor are later add-ons.

              Brian, posting this comment is obviously a response to what I said about John's grey cap. I refuse to get drawn into a pissing contest with you but if you want to drag out all my old threads just to slag them off, be my guest.

                Not at all, Ben. Nothing of the sort. I generally have a great deal of respect for your opinions and feel you have as much experience as any of us on this forum. You corrected me on a set of badges awhile ago that I thought looked bad from the pics, and I appreciated it very much.
                But when you actually entertained a notion that the one-looker Janke above might be good, you have to admit that it had a great deal of bearing on your 'importance' in the discussion on the other thread. Especially when you were trying to compare your cap with the other one and they are clearly completely different.

                I'm sure you realize that there are many 'collectors' on these forums who have no real experience or pool of knowledge of their own to draw from.
                They simply fire off X-number of dollars to Bill Shea or Kelly Hicks or Detlev Niemann and . . .WALLA . . . a week later they have a top-shelf piece, which they quickly snap some shots of and upload it to the oohs and aahs of the waiting newbies who honestly believe that they are Masters of the Militaria Universe.

                I'm sorry, but that's not my kind of collecting. That's just buying somebody else's knowledge. Believe me, I've done all my own grunt-work. I also collect for my own private pleasure, and don't feel the need like many here to be a 'celebrity' in the collecting community, strutting around shows like there is something magical or impressive about having a piece of SS or FJ headgear. There is neither. ANYBODY can do that. All it takes is dumb luck and hard cash. For me the thrill has always been in the hunt and the interaction with a vet who has been there and can tell you some little memory or tidbit about the helmet or patch that he's handing to you.

                    Brian, what is the matter with you at the moment? You're determined to have a fight with someone and now you've moved your aim onto me. I don't claim or wish that what I say holds any "importance" on this or any other forum. I simple tell it the way I see it at that moment and if I'm wrong, no big deal, it's a pleasure to learn new things and the whole reason I keep coming back here.

                    But, no way is this particular cap a one look janke or any other kind of well known repro. You yourself said it has an original visor and sweatband (I would add that it's an original lining as well) so it can't be a one look janke, can it? It's very likely a frankenstein but I'm not too proud to ask for second opinions.

                        Ben, I have never seen that type of synthetic trikot on anything other than a Janke. That and the stitching going right across the front of the
                        band immediately condemn this piece at a glance. After that, any interior details become totally irrelevant. I guess what I'm trying to say ( and apparently not that well ) is that you shocked me with the fact that you didn't see that, and therefore how can I trust your word on the other cap? Does that make sense? At no time have I been trying to instigate anything. I'm just trying to state my humble opinion like everybody else. The fact that it isn't the popular one right now doesn't mean it isn't just as valid or that I like being ganged-up on.

                        Now can we be friends again?

                          With regard to the original topic of the cap's chances of being real, I can't see for sure but it looks to me like the centerline of the front of the cap is a good deal off kilter compared to what you'd like to see - it sort of "fades" to the wearer's left as you get toward the top. That wasn't considered Kosher, to turn a phrase, in period caps.
