    exotic officer's "schiffchen"-overseas cap

I took this picture last December at the La Gleize Museum, while visiting the Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge) commemorative activities.
Note the exotic officer's M38 Infantry "schiffchen"(overseas) cap displayed in the museum
MADE COMPLETELY OF LEATHER! Seen anything like this? Nick

I was wondering the other day why we don't see many caps made from leather. Seems a perfect material for the field. Do we know anyone working in his Museum? would love to see more shots of this one.

Leather is good for cold weather, but miserable for warm weather.

I can relate to the above remark, but this mindset is one that all collectors must
be on constant guard against! I don't know if the OS cap is period or not, but in general I do not believe even collectivly we collectors are aware of all of the period varaitions of ANY type of 3rd reich item. This is why the reason of "I have not seen one like this before" is no basis to declare something as fake.

I AGREE! That is why I am very open minded! And unlike text book examples, custom made pieces (and foreign made) are often more affordable because of the "risk" factor... is it real or not? This cap certainly is!
I will post more neat caps from this museum shortly (seperate threads)

              panzer leather M43

Lets revisit an older thread for the sake of prooving that leather caps were (custom) made and certainly used (if you believe the story in this thread).
Here's the other example, Waffen SS panzer related M43, which I also have faith in! Nick
