Well Ben, I can understand your feelings, but that's just my MO (method of operation).

Let's just see what others have to say, should they care to "weigh in" on the thread; how about some of the hard corps DAK fellows???

Who knows, perhaps I am wrong, it certainly wouldn't be the first (or last) time.

Thanks for the bigger images Greg, to me the soutache looks golden yellow and machine stitched but without being able to handle the cap I can not be certain.

The cockade is also interesting and worthy of closer inspection. It could be an early one but there is something different about it and I would want to compare with known originals to be sure.

Also the eagle shows use and fading. The hand stitch by which it has been applied looks good, is typical of the period but is it correct for this manufacturer ? A "Seamstress" who knows their trade can apply an eagle like that today, no trouble at all (in fact it is probably a bit rough by their standards). What I would like to know from others who have caps by this maker is if their eagles are hand stitched to the cap ?

The more I see, the more I really like this cap but Byron's caution is not misplaced either, there are some amazing copies of DAK caps out there and this one has a rare desirable soutache so in my book that increases the caution.

If it was me, I would be asking myself what is the price they want for it ? If the price is not too bad then in my opinion this is worth the gamble.

Lets us know how you get on and if possible please post some close ups of the grommets, Chris

It has the look the right shape and some nice wear on the outside thats difficult to make out from the photos. Is it a dealers cap or a private non collector ? Rob

            hi

The wear is consistant through the cap and i agree there is an odd look about the eagle that may be enhanced by the photo.

But i do like it the soutach is attached in the traditional way and again is worn evenly ontoo the cockade.
