    Any Caps from the SOS

Just wondering if any among us had picked up any good headgear at the SOS? I saw the pics from the helmet section (very impressive), but it was only helmet pics (not my thing, i guess). Lets see the Cloth headgear, guys?

Nick informed me that the pickens' were "slim"--a lot of visors with replaced sweatbands--sounds like the tunics were there in abundance, however.

Yes pickings were slim. There were certainly some real nice ones there but prices were out of this world. I walked by “Oakleaf’s” table and spotted a very, very nice Erel Cav. Interior was perfect. It did have a couple of small moth holes on the top though. I really don’t need a cav but for a nice dead nuts one looker Erel I figured why not. I asked about the price and he said $2,200. I almost fell over. How do you even negotiate for something like that? Hey I will give you half, lol. The usual players had some nice ones, Gerard, Burmiester, Shea. As for finding a gem with one of the little guys, not a chance. A lot of bad lids. I did see enough color piped SS visors to literally dress a battalion. We walked around for two days trying to finds my buddy a nice em/nco arty visor. That should be about the easiest order to fill. We saw plenty, almost all had repaired sweatbands or some other small problem but they were all asking $675 or higher. For a repaired common visor like that is insane. There were also plenty of fakes to go around. The other thing that was funny is about one in three officers visors I picked up had contract linings. An em/nco upgrade sells for about the same price is an em/nco. Well not according to the prices I saw. I went for visors and came home with uniforms.

        Back home ...

This was in my collection once and is now back home -- glad I went to the SOS.

It was "under the table" at Jason Burmeister's. Jason had been "holding" it for me since I sold it to him some time back. I thank him for doing this for me -- I was finally able to afford to buy it back. The best Erel Luftwaffe visor I have seen -- and a "Privat" on top of it!

I should have figured Burmeister had it. He was one of a small handful of dealers that had some real lookers. In fact he had three or four just dead mint army’s.

Congrats on bringing home the "wayward child" Mike! I know there are several of mine from years ago still floating out there somewhere. Would dearly love to find them again, but at current prices, probably couldn't afford to get them back.

Nick, thank you for the SOS SITREP. I'm going to start saving now, and with any luck, might be able to make the show in the next year or two.

Any other visor acquistions from the show out there?

That's a bummer to hear about all the fakes or tampered pieces. The pricing thing is disheartening as well, but I guess that's the way our hobby is going.

Nick, hope to see your uniform purchases soon.

Mike, Nice Luft. I bet you're happy to have that beauty back

I am surprised you don't have 15 of these already! Did you happen to see any Luft tropical trousers?

Very Nice Mr. Hodgin; I think I am familiar with that styles "typical" lining (silver-gray artificial silk "HBT"???).

Thanks for the reply Mr. Huff and Mr. Singer.

No John, I've been looking forever for a decent "Trap" M43. Most of those I have seen were either too worn or had a shoddy, crude look. This example was lightly worn, but is in perfect condition. I love the blue color and the woven wool. M43s of wool with a weave are scarce. Here is a detail.

No, I did not see many überfallhosen. Harry Cliffe showed me two well worn pairs, but I do not think they were for sale.

Mr. Singer, you are spot on regarding the HBT lining, also atypical.
                              Regards,
                              John
