It was not my intent to embarass anyone with the poll, but rather to use it as a humorous mechanism to 'introduce' Mr Singer to those who may not know him. Since he is a rather private person, it was my hope that reader comments to this thread would serve to provide a little background to the man behind 'the phrase'. We're fortunate to have someone of his calibre posting in the uniform and headgear forums. Apologies if the poll has disturbed certain members.

Mr. Singer has, at one point, 'entertained doubts' (I believe the quote was - "One looker - Take one look and run away!") about one item of uniform in my collection. Although the arguement was heated at times, (and long!), we agreed to disagree, as independantly minded men do, at times. At NO point did I then, or now, underestimate the man's opinion. Conservative? Certainly. That's what you get from years of watching the 'hobby' change, and seeing the quality of the fakes fool even the most experienced collectors.
Staying the course and sticking to what you KNOW, from experience, learning as much as we can about the mainstream manufacturing procedures, materials (textbook?) etc, is what we all hope to achieve (surely?) Knowledge is, of course, power. (Over being shafted, correct?)
No-one is 100% right 100% of the time. So what? Collecting TR items covers such a huge spectrum - we cannot know it all.
But when Mr. Singer has an opinion, along with others whom have consistantly shown the depth of knowledge we both admire, and seek, we owe it to ourselves to listen.
(Even though I still disagree with you about my converted Trop' STuG tunic!)
        With Respect,
        Mark.

I would like to begin by thanking those of you that have been so gracious as to make comments on my behalf. Especially gratifying is the fact that many of those who did so are (in my view) exceptionally knowledgeable persons in this hobby.

I would also like to thank ALL members who have chosen to participate by voting, no matter which way.

As Willi Zahn so accurately commented, I do not consider myself an expert; were I to do so, I feel I would hinder my ability to further learn about the hobby I enjoy so much. And I have yet much to learn!

If anything can be learned from this thread it should not be about me but rather, any collecting opinion cannot (should not) be taken as a gospel. It is just that, an opinion. And that the value of independent, analytical thought and examination can never be replaced in the making of a good collector.

Finally, I would like to thank my good friend Mr. Mike Davis for undertaking this "project of mirth" and I regret any "flak" that might have flown in his direction for having done so.

Best regards and Happy New Year to ALL.
          B. N. Singer
          Shoot, I forgot to vote!!

And a very Happy New Year to you Mr. Singer and all the other collectors who make this the great forum it is. I look forward to your comments in 2007.
Of course I could do without "From the pictures posted I could entertain doubts" on my items. As I get older I start worrying about stress on my heart . WR Jim

I think Bryon is great because he's like a favourite tv quiz show host!

"Ladies and Gentlemen, it's Saturday night, it's 6 o'clock and what could I entertain?"

                      "DOUBTS, Bryon!"

"You betcha!, what a great crowd."

Say now, I never thought about that, a collector's quiz show!! Maybe I missed my calling! Perhaps I could give Bob Barker (The Price Is Right) a run for his money. Ben, how about being the producer, after all, it was your idea!!

No problem Bryon, my brother in law is a tv camerman so I'll get him on board as well. All we need now are some long legged birds in short skirts to wear the panzerwraps and visor caps and we've got one hell of a show!

"For $1,000.....my first name is Frank, what kind of cap am I?"

                            "A Frank-enstein cap Bryon!"

                            "Jawohl! mein contestant!!"

Nevermind Bob Barker his day is long gone his game was Truth or Consequences or The Price is right..I Think Simon of American Idol fits the mold of a game show on a forum like this better since he always has opinions that cut right to the core.
