A couple of questions: The reed style shaping rod - is it for the top of the cap where most period caps have the shaping rod incorporated under the piping, or is it elsewhere? Is the zig zag stitching seen on the repro visors unique to the Janke visors or was this type stitching also seen on period sweatbands?

The owner of the Erel Trademark

Correction:



Janke doesn't make Erel caps! The legal owner of the EREL trademark is a company called Erich Fritsch KG. All the Erel marked caps are sold through Reddick Enterprises in Denison, TX.

There are several other cap makers still making visor caps in Germany, some will mark their caps any way you like, or not at all.

Now, the other fakes I think need to be posted would be some Wolfram Diebel's of the 80's and those "Hollywood Military Hobbies" Erel fakes of the 1960's (the ones with a red lining and oversized logo)--any volunteers?!

Michael Janke

I don't think that Michael Janke is making quite all of these that he is being credited with. There are several reproductions being made today for the ever-expanding world of reenactors. As far as the person requesting information on how to contact him, Bill Bureau's Militaria is a dealer for Janke reproductions in the U.S. He may give you the contact information if you convince him that you are not simply trying to buy directly from Janke so to cut him out of his share. I understand that Michael Janke took over the business when his father died, I am not sure when his father started making reproductions but I know he was doing it as early as the 1970s.
