Steve this guy looks so excited to become an officer he probably had his tabs and boards in his pocket, lol. That chin cord is about to jump off too. Wow, look at the buttons, they are silver. Man this guy can't wait.

Unfortunately, I trust that Gerrhard never made it to officer: this picture is dated 19.01.1943 and, according to my research, the IF Reg. 134 was stuck in the Kessel at Stalingrad until it was destroyed four days later. Sad indeed.
